Open Campus: Progress Update (Aug 2023)
Web3 is coming to education, and Open Campus is at the forefront of this revolution. Here’s a round-up of some of our latest initiatives and the exciting direction in which we’re heading.
Empowering the Next Generation on Climate Change
Open Campus is thrilled to announce the successful launch of our “Climate Change for Kids” campaign. Launched on Twitter, the #climatechange4kids initiative has already garnered over 100,000 impressions in under a week.
The campaign comes packed with various features:
● A proposed $1 million fund set aside to incentivize teachers to curate courses centered on climate change.
● The “Living Stories” project encourages communities to showcase their daily climate-conscious habits, ensuring that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom.
● TinyTap, our launch partner, has crafted a unique climate-themed sticker pack. This aids educators in constructing interactive and engaging course materials.
● Adding a fun element to this serious subject is the “Climate Detectives: Saving Planet Earth” game from TinyTap, accessible for free on mobile and desktop.
Next wave of tokenizing education, via Publisher NFTs
The digital wave has taken over the educational sphere, and our Publisher NFT Season 2 stands testament to that. Set to launch soon, this is our most expansive collection to date, featuring 1,000 courses from global TinyTap creators.
As a reminder, Publisher NFTs are tokenized Real World Asset (RWA). Behind each NFT is the right to market, promote, and earn a portion of the revenue generated by the associated TinyTap course. The money raised goes back to the teachers, who can reinvest in more courses. In Season 1, holders of Publisher NFTs participated in publishing decisions and earned a 20% yield on their initial investment on average.
For our Open Campus OG supporters, be ready for a boost: Holders of the backpack and notebook NFTs will get an additional yield on their Publisher NFTs. The release date will be unveiled shortly, and considering the anticipation, these are expected to fly off the virtual shelves. So, gear up and load up on your $EDU tokens.
A United Front: The Open Campus Alliance
The Open Campus Alliance (OC Alliance), a consortium of companies in education that have chosen to integrate the Open Campus protocol and its underlying $EDU token into its products and services, officially launched in early July. NewCampus, one of the largest management training providers in Southeast Asia, was our inaugural strategic and launch partner.
Since our launch, we have been hard at work, onboarding more forward-thinking educational institutions into the Alliance. In just under a month, the OC Alliance now has over 24 participating companies across the world, and that number is growing every week. At the heart of the OC Alliance is a blockchain payments and rewards program that unlocks a new distribution channel for Alliance members’ products and services to a global audience of learners. On the other hand, educators, parents and learners will find a place where they can easily discover and earn rewards for engaging with a diverse range of educational content and products.
Your Education, Your Identity
In the age of WorldCoin and the ongoing discourse around the Proof of Humanity, we at Open Campus believe that your education and credentials form a significant part of your identity. Enter Open Campus ID, a dedicated hub for your academic credentials and certifications which will be supported by all Open Campus Alliance institutions.
ID holders will be gifted with $EDU tokens, inviting them to sample our range of education games and courses available across the OC Alliance. In the future, holding an Open Campus ID will enable learners to earn rewards as they complete courses on the OC Alliance. Further, we will start Phase 1 holders of Open Campus ID with a learning quiz, tailored to discern your learning patterns and habits. After all, in this digital age, the human element of learning remains irreplaceable.
Learning and Collecting Achievements with Open Campus Labs
We launched Open Campus Labs last week! With a strategic focus on collaboration with prominent players in the web3 space, OC Labs serves as a dynamic platform that enables brands to engage the community through education.
In collaboration with our launch partners, Crossmint and Animoca Brands, the first two courses in Semester 1 are aimed at teaching young kids about important topics such as financial literacy and digital property rights, all powered by our anchor partner, TinyTap.
Learners are also able to mint and collect commemorative POAPS upon completing the courses. Go try it out and collect your POAPs, while supplies last! We’ll be rolling out more content in the days to come, so watch this space!
OC-X: $10M EdTech Accelerator to Onboard 100 Education Companies into Web3
Following the launch of the Open Campus DAO, we were excited to see many community-initiated proposals submitted to the Council. One that stood out, in particular, was OCP-4, the latest proposal from NewCampus, an OC Alliance partner, to establish and operate the $10M Open Campus Accelerator: OC-X!
NewCampus’ goal with OC-X is to bring the 100 education companies into the OC ecosystem within the next 18 months. Participants stand to receive funding of up to $100k each and will undergo a comprehensive curriculum. Through this program, NewCampus hopes to integrate $EDU, Publisher NFTs, Open Campus ID …and more, into participating companies’ businesses and unify them through the OC Alliance.
Voting for OCP-4 will start on 17 August. Our Community Managers are working with the NewCampus team to actively engage and solicit feedback from the community so do watch out for upcoming Twitter Spaces and Town Halls!
Open Campus: A Global Endeavor
Open Campus is not just a platform; it’s a global community. From the very early days, we already have local African and Spain communities, we’re now spreading our wings to Turkey, with the local community there showing promising growth.
In our quest to make quality education accessible globally, we have big plans to expand our local communities from SE Asia, Europe, the US, or the Middle East. The aim? To amalgamate stakeholders, localize content, and inspire creators to collaborate with Open Campus.
